Throughout this section, I have offered quite a comprehensive list of what I would consider are some fun family memories waiting to happen, away from the usual advertised activities you see these fun things with kids will have everyone entertained on some level. In addition, where possible I’ve provided details to make your planning easier, such as attraction locations, opening hours and ticket prices. All pricing is in USD here and currently correct. I have preferred to offer USD pricing as the fluctuation in conversion will not be as stable as the USD prices.
You will note that throughout my site, I often recommend you purchase your tickets in advance from Klook or web links provided . Yes, I will receive a small commission in some cases – but as you will see in most cases, you will save yourself a stack of cash if you book through them, I am a super thrifty traveller and hold my reputation to a high standard so you can feel confident that prices will always be of great value.
Let's kick it off with something Fun, FREE and suitable for all weather!

The store is said to be filled with new immersive sets and larger than life photo opportunities on a regular basis. It needs to be on you're bucket list for next visit to LA with or without kids!
These cute and not so cute pop cultures, all inspired by characters from movies and TV shows fill the Well thought out themed areas/ zones making this store very easy to navigate.
Earlier I said this was a free activity ... while resting on my thoughts here I will add Yes, it's free, only if you manage to get in and out without buying anything!
*** DID YOU KNOW...... you can actually create a pop of yourself? check out the website and see if you can create and pick up when visiting in store?
*** Grammy Museum ***
Location: 800 W. Olympic Blvd,
(on the corner on W. Olympic Blvd. and Figueroa St).
Opening Hours: Sunday to Friday 11 am to 5 pm | Saturday 10 am to 6 pm | Closed Tuesdays
Price: $18 per adult | $12 per child | Kids under 4 free
With plenty of interactive exhibits for the kids (and the kids at heart), including the opportunity to play a range of musical instruments and record your own music. It's just one for the whole family to enjoy and can be easily overlooked when weighing up the to do list - I get it there are only so many hours in the day right and so many weeks in the holiday......
so let's take a peek at what's for Mum and Dad: A huge range of music exhibits, from rock and hip-hop to country, classical, Latin, R&B, and jazz. I believe although The Grammy Museum is a great hands-on kid’s museum and one of (in my opinion) the better Los Angeles has, Adults/parents can remain engaged as they explore the history and cultural significance of American music and see some amazing artifacts from music history such as precious manuscripts, costumes, ornaments, and commemorative short films, at this iconic museum.
It is also a Note to mention - with the exhibits; they do offer ‘special exhibits throughout the year, so check the website before you go as there could be one on when you’re in Los Angeles!
I honestly think for a family (ours is 4, with disability) you could easily spend 2 hours (or more) here, particularly if you all have a go at the various interactive exhibits, Thats pretty good bang for your buck I'd say!
*** DISNEY CONCERT HALL ***
Location: 111 South Grand Avenue in downtown Los Angeles.
Opening Hours: Check out The Music Centre Tour Schedule prior
Price: Free
I'm just going to say Straight up here>>> Perhaps not one of the absolute best things to choose with kids, but it’s free, so keep this tucked away for a rainy day swap out!
Even if you don’t go to see a show at the Walt Disney Concert Hall, I highly recommend you stop by to check out this magnificent building! The Hall’s exterior is an architectural masterpiece all of its own and you will be in awe of the metallic curves of the building.
Self-guided audio tours (maybe not the best with younger kids) and guided tours (an hour long) of Walt Disney Concert Hall are offered by the Music Centre most days and begin in the Grand Avenue Lobby of Walt Disney Concert Hall.
*** Los Angeles Zoo ***
Location: 5333 Zoo Drive
(across from the Autry Museum of Western Heritage, another you might want to check out while you are around)
Opening Hours: Daily 10 am to 5 pm ( Last entry is 3.45pm)
Price: $22 per adult | $17 per child | $19 per senior(62+) Kids under 2 free
Who loves a Zoo... we do! .... It can be a big day especially if you have little ones and let's quietly consider any disability hurdles here also. I do still think it's a great stop to consider.... LA zoo stretches over 113 acres and is home to more than 1,100 birds, mammals, amphibians, and reptiles representing more than 250 different species including 29 endangered ones.
This zoo is also well-known for its exciting special exhibits, events and evening programs that are ever changing throughout the seasons.
It is a relatively inexpensive attraction when in LA, kids will love it and aside food and a possible trinket, there is no additional spending once inside unless you choose to!
SIDE NOTE - Animals do tend to retreat around the 4pm mark as end of day routine begins for staff.
*** LA country Museum of Art ( LACMA)***
Location: 5905 Wilshire Boulevard
Opening Hours:opening Hours tend to vary.
Price: $25 per adult | $10 per child | Kids under 2 free
Aside the obvious museum - the outdoor space stole our hearts and can be enjoyed free of charge with a cute courtyard (cafe also) and the beautiful Urban Light Display that is worthy of many selfie opportunities, and seemed to be enjoyed by our girls more than we could have imagined we spent a good 20 minutes (and they would have stayed longer) just playing between the lights.
For the art lover it's huge volume and diversity of art with collections ranging from pre-history to contemporary art, you are covered. It's said to be continuously changing with exhibitions stretched across more than 20 acres of land, I would recommend checking out the museum’s website prior to a visit to see what events are currently taking place.
Parking directly under!
*** California Adventure Park ***

Opening Hours: Daily, with hours being seasonal,
Price: From $104 per day, children under 3 are free
Straight across from Disneyland, you also have California Adventure Park where the kids will love all the exciting lands that bring Disney, Pixar and superhero stories to life.

You’ll also have the chance to meet all your favourite Disney characters (at both parks), in addition to rides, experiences, and attractions from Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar Animation, and more!

It's a YES from us.... We really, really enjoy our time visiting San Diego and have seen new things each visit, Check out our Top Rated Family Fun With The Kids Spots Right Here.
We are often asked what to do with the time in the day that remains waiting for our return flight home.
Well honestly that depends on how relaxed you can be if you choose to leave the airport if you are able to venture out without fear of missing your flight and just going with it then I would suggest one final hurrah...
Inspired by the canals of Venice, Italy. A peaceful easy way to step back for some quiet time... this worked well for us when our daughter needed to take a step back from all the noise of life.
Yes it's busy, but.......everyone has to take a stroll down this famous Hollywood strip in LA if only the once....
Our Kids particularly love finding their idols.
Hollywood has loads of activites, why not consider something a little different like a trip to the Chinese Theatre and take a tour, Just follow the stars, along the walk of fame.
Anywhere, anytime just take the shot... enjoy the moment, capture it for years ahead. Our daughter refuses photos 99% of the time so its these moments that are treasured, just playing in her own world!
There really is only one way to see the sites of LA, If your budget allows -hunt down a personal tour guide.
If you get it right it's well worth every dollar!
Our fun way to capture travel locations is to choose a fun foot shot!
** Kids love this idea **
While we are talking about things that are FREE ...... let me mention this iconic landmark >>
*** FAMOUS HOLLYWOOD SIGN, Mt Lee, LA ***
You can’t leave town without at least a glimpse of the Hollywood sign. A trip to LA would not be complete without a photo with the famed Hollywood Sign. It's Iconic and I would bet your kids have already seen in without actually seeing it in real life..... So i think it's also a great way to offer a history lesson.
Though it's position on Mt Lee offers visitors a glimpse from all over town, it can be hard to get a good angled, un-obstructed shot. Vantage points are located all over town but I would advise stopping by our VIP section to see where we best recommend your selfie snap should take place! You may choose to take a guided tour if you are short on time as this would offer you the best opportunity to see the site with little time wasted. You could also consider a guided tour offering you additional vantage points
*** Guinness World record Museum ***
Location: 6764 Hollywood Blvd
Opening Hours: Daily 9 am to 12 am

The kids will love attempting records of their own and comparing themselves against the world’s tallest man ROBERT or perhaps they will try their weight against the world’s heaviest person...honestly a lot of fun and its super interactive. Bonus note - the Kids have no idea how educational this visit actually is its silently tucked away in all the fun!
*** Rodeo Drive ***
Location: Rodeo Drive, Beverley Hills
Opening Hours: Individual store/restaurant opening times may vary.
Price: well lets just say ...... Window Shopping = Free, You can do it! ( I was very strategic here and visited on a public holiday)
I'm in my 40's and this visit was a pretty women flash back just waiting to happen after being reminded by a close friend that this opportunity was not be missed ... it's all about Rodeo Drive Baby!
Whilst I do not have the funds to fulfil this adventure to its full potential, I was very strategic in my choice of dates by electing a public holiday to stroll down the drive, and what a fantastic idea it was!Our family and a few others here and there allowed us for the perfect opportunity to Selfie like we owned the entire street ..... we had our choice of every single store window and took our time - this was honestly a beautiful experience for our Down Syndrome 7yr old she has a thing with Door ways and expected a selfie at each one we come across.... so BINGO!
A good hour and then some, snapping away made this a very unexpected and warmly welcomed activity to slow the pace down for the day. Famous for its expensive cars such as Lamborghini’s, Rolls Royce’s, and Bentley’s parked out the front of the fancy upscale boutiques – Rodeo Drive tends to be one of the must see LA tourist spots, particularly for Pretty Woman fans like myself and although it felt like it had been stripped bare of these jewels during our visit, we were super lucky in finding a sweet *TOUS signature charm on the side walk and caught of glimpse of J.Bieber zipping down the drive who would have thought!
I was considering a guided city tour that included a stop here during the week but reconsidered that quickly when we seen there was a huge event taking place (still unsure what it was) Star studded they say!
My point here is- think outside the box.
*** Madame Tussauds Hollywood wax Museum ****

Since we are on Hollywood Blvd lets also mention Hollywood wax Museum, an all weather attraction full of celebrities for those fun famous selfies! A parenting side note is - our Pre teen absolutely loves these museums.... ( I wouldn't have picked this as something she would enjoy but she did) so I suggest you check out this Madame Tussauds in Hollywood and get your picture taken with your favourite celebrity. Hand over the camera to the kids and let them enjoy all that this museum offers it's many meticulous figures, realistic prop works on display, there is over 125 incredibly life-like figures from the celebrity worlds of film, television and more! Here's hoping you bump into a real life Celeb whilst on your holiday, but just incase you don't these selfies have you covered! Find this attraction included in the LA attraction pass

Price: Entry to the Observatory is free, but you must buy tickets to the Planetarium show
If you would like a guided tour of the Observatory
Our Family Fun with Kids page next leads us to Griffith Park - to visit the Griffith Observatory. I have to say this would have to be one of the top 5 things we recommend to do in Los Angeles with kids a visit of Griffith Park. Being the largest public park in the USA, it is not only a gorgeous setting for hiking and picnics, but it also has loads of LA attractions for kids. This park is truely huge, well over 4000 acres of a pure beauty, landscape features its all natural fields, covered with California oak trees, among other diverse flora and fauna. Here you can find space related exhibits and star shows in the planetarium (included in the LA attractions pass). The Observatory also has great views of downtown LA and the Hollywood sign. The best way to see and hear all about the Observatory is to book a guided tour, see link above.
A huge call I know, Hands down one of the most inclusive park we have visited in the USA, Families matter here!
Have you even been to Hollywood if you haven't managed to catch a glimpse of this Iconic landmark?...
Be sure capture yourself a family memory at the many, many vantage points across the USA , this was taken from the base area and let me say the journey to get here had us driving through the most beautiful landscapes it was a real treat in itself. If time allows Pack a picnic before you head up and enjoy the wide open space - they also had vendors here with simple offerings and drinks.
It can be busy, so I guess just cross your fingers and hope you timed it right.
*** Santa Monica Pier & Pacific Park ***
Location: 380 Santa Monica Pier, Santa Monica
Opening Hours: Check Pacific Park’s scheduled operating hours (post covid)
Price: Entry to Santa Monica Pier and Pacific Park is free;
( rides and Amusements are charged accordingly)
It's another one of those go to land marks that we all have to see once. We did, I have to say visiting post covid I did keep a very open mind after what feedback i had heard and seen - Yet I was still fulfilled!
another fun family thing to do with Kids in LA would have to be a visit to Santa Monica Pier. This landmark is very popular tourists & the locals alike, it also hosts many small stallas and eateries and the famous Pacific Park amusement park. This iconic amusement park is not at all huge but it is a great size to build into a day trip here without causing any exhaustion. Outside the rides there is the beautiful stroll along the pier that has you exploring many small local stalls, artists, street performers, ice cream stalls, a visitors center, and of cause it needs to be mentioned it is the END of the route 66 trail that is celebrated in a teeny store full its legend and celebrates fine American-made goods. Stop by, it’s not the end, it’s just the beginning.
For the history seeking travellers the opportunity to learn about the pier is located in various points allowing for some time to appreciate the pier and its vast history. Pop down to the beach and take some time off your feet while the kids play on the equipment.... then once you have topped the energy levels You can ride or walk to Venice Beach..... Yes you can stroll all the way from Santa Monica Pier to Venice fishing pier in around 15minutes on bike or 1/2 hour by foot.
*** Venice Beach ***
Location: Venice Boulevard
Opening Hours: Always open.
vendors have different opening and closing times.
Price: Free
Although you missed out on the filming of Barbie - VB is such a fun place to just hang out and people watch... With many eateries stop and flop i suggest a lunch at a more lavish roof top bar or restaurant for the opportunity to soak up the magnificent views of the ocean and surrounds.... once the belly is full... its time to hit the boardwalk and take the trip all the way up to Santa Monica beach, ( as previously mentioned above) again you are offered various stalls and buskers along the way that will slow your trip up to SMP as you stop and enjoy things... but lets say without stopping (not possible with so much to gawk at), the walk will take around 30 minutes.
*** Shane's Inspiration Playground ***
Location: 4730 Crystal Springs Road (mid park)

It's Griffith Park again, and yes it's free! *** DISNEYLAND ***
Location: 1313 Disneyland Dr, Anaheim
Opening Hours: Daily, with hours being seasonal,
Price: From $104 per day, children under 3 are free
Purposely leaving this option of Family Fun with kids further down my list is because really It Won’t get much better than this, when it comes to the most fun ever!! There’s not much I can say that you don’t already know about the most famous theme park in the world
Disneyland California… except I will say it is pretty much one of the best things to do in
Los Angeles with kids - (and is possibly the most expensive for travelling families)..... No more so than now, POST COVID!! I am still in shock at the costs of our recent USA trip ( our 3rd USA trip since 2016) I can honestly say prices are quite high but they are still on par with the worlds living costs post Covid, its the new norm that we all need to adapt to. Don't let this frighten you. Budget well, shop away from Disney if designer tags are not essential and you ca save a load of cash. ( most stores around Disney stock ears and attire for under $10.00 USD, so be sure to set yourself a firm budget )
Back to Disney......> Full of the traditional Disney charm and attention to detail, your visit here will create an abundance of family memories to last a lifetime! ( our girls1st visit was 2016 ( 16 months & 4yrs old) and we still talk about it all the time ... The magic is in our blood ... there is just something super special about a trip to Disneyland that really cannot be put into words.
With the help of the perfect Disney cast and staff who make sure your visit runs smoothly. DisneyLand is about experiencing the fairytale and watching the famous cartoon characters of Walt Disney come to life. Albeit in the many themed lands offering relatable foods and rides - to shows and photo opportunities the magic is cast all over the land.
Its a promise you will enjoy this place as much as your children.
Many people spend multiple days at Disneyland, although one day per park is more than enough for those short on time. Having visited only in off peak season my advice is based on lines at the time of our visit ... for those who are particularly tight on time you may opt to use the Genie Pass (additional costs) or you can also buy park hopper tickets to jump between parks within the one day if you prefer.( this is a good idea if your super strapped for time and wanting to stay for the nigh time festivities - you can finish up in time at one park to dash to the other for the final firework display) Customer care will look after families travelling with disability so be sure to contact them prior to visiting to be guided how they are best able to cater to you're needs.
All in all the day should be about the experience of feeling the true magic that is Disney!
Lets not forget the Sensational Themed events created during the changing seasons Celebrating all things Christmas, Halloween and more. Plan strategically and enjoy both halloween and Christmas if time allows!
As night fall settles in for the parade and fireworks you take may like to take the final opportunity to hug your kids tight and pray you can afford to feed them tomorrow ( I'm joking).
The night parade in all its glitz and Glamour allows for some time to reflect on what being a parent is all about and to really except these little humans are the only reason you breath. With Fireworks reflecting in thier eyes of excitement, faces beaming without a care in the world its a beautiful moment to imagine life through their eyes. Even if for just a few short moments we imagine living without judgement and enjoying all life's innocence before the reality of Adulthood quickly snaps you back with the sting of purchasing a final requested treat or trinket!
It really is the most magical place on earth!
